EXCLUSIVE: Michael Schaefer, President of Motion Picture and Television of New Regency Productions, is departing his post after seven years. We’re hearing this is an amicable decision between both parties and has been in the works for some time, coordinated with New Regency Chairman and CEO, Yariv Milchan. Schaefer will be exploring new opportunities as a producer across film and television.
At New Regency, Schaefer oversaw the production of films including Zach Cregger’s Barbarian, starring Georgina Campbell, Bill Skarsgård, and Justin Long; Deep Water, starring Ben Affleck and Ana de Armas; Robert Eggers’ The Northman, starring Alexander Skarsgård, Nicole Kidman, and Willem Dafoe and Bohemian Rhapsody, starring Rami Malek, which won four Academy Awards.
On the television side, Schaefer executive produced New Regency’s upcoming Prime Video series Mr & Mrs. Smith starring Donald Glover and Maya Erskine, the Apple TV+ series The Crowded Room starring Tom Holland, Amanda Seyfried, and Emmy Rossum as well as the critically acclaimed Prime Video series “Swarm.”
New Regency’s next release, the highly anticipated and critically acclaimed The Bikeriders, directed by Palme d’Or nominee Jeff Nichols and starring Austin Butler, Jodie Comer, Tom Hardy, and Michael Shannon arrives in theaters on December 1, 2023. Milcahn and Schaefer also produced Steve McQueen‘s World War II epic Blitz for Apple TV+ which is slated for release next year.
