New Line’s The Nun II, one of the few bright spots at the fall box office rocked by the actors strikes, will hit Max on Oct. 27. That premiere date is after the pic’s 50-day theatrical window.
The Michael Chaves directed sequel in the Conjuring universe opened to $32.6M and through yesterday counts $84.4M at the domestic box office and over $258M worldwide.
The movie follows young Sister Irene’s (Taissa Farmiga) crusade against a sinister, evil Mother Superior spirit, aka Valak, who takes over the souls of people around her. Set in 1956 France, the pic picks up after The Nun when Maurice (Jonas Bloquet) becomes possessed. Storm Reid also stars.
The Conjuring universe through eight movies is the highest grossing horror franchise ever with $2.2 billion.
