EXCLUSIVE: Amazon MGM Studios has tapped Taylor Chukwu (The Mysterious Benedict Society) to script The Truth About Mrs. Claus, a new film based on the same-name book by Meena Harris that is currently in development.
The story takes place at the North Pole, where every elf dreams of being part of Santa’s workshop. But only a select few get to know an amazing secret: Mrs. Claus is the true force behind Christmas. Through the eyes of a precocious elf girl who dreams of something more, we set off on a journey to meet the world’s most brilliant and secretive entrepreneur.
Hillman Grad Productions and Phenomenal Media will produce, with Tori Sampson executive producing. Rishi Rajani, Rocio Melara, and Travis Ing will oversee for Hillman Grad.
Prior to adaptating The Truth About Mrs. Clause, Chukwu served as a staff writer on Disney+’s series The Mysterious Benedict Society, based on the children’s books by Trenton Lee Stewart, which ran for two seasons.
The founder and CEO of the Tony Award-winning consumer and media company Phenomenal, which aims to elevate the stories of women and historically excluded communities, Harris has penned four children’s book, including the instant #1 New York Times bestseller Ambitious Girl, which she followed up with the recent release of A Is for Ambitious. Her company most recently exec produced The Graduates, the Tribeca prize-winning feature from writer-director Hannah Peterson. It also co-produced the critically acclaimed Broadway musical A Strange Loop, which won the 2022 Tony Award for Best Musical, and the Olivier Award-winning Broadway revival of the classic play, Death of a Salesman.
Phenomenal is now co-producing My Son’s A Queer, (but What Can You Do?), the Olivier Award-nominated play debuting on Broadway this spring following sold-out runs in London’s West End and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
Founded by Emmy-winning multi-hyphenate Lena Waithe and CEO Rishi Rajani to bolster underrepresented artists and their stories, Hillman Grad’s currently producorial projects include the Emmy-nominated documentary Being Mary Tyler Moore and the 2023 Sundance prize-winners A Thousand and One and Kokomo City.
Chukwu is represented by Literate Management and Jackoway Austen Tyerman; Harris by CAA and The Nord Group; and Hillman Grad by WME and Blue Marble Management.
