Thanks to the 14-run last wicket stand between Kuldeep Yadav and Mohammed Siraj, India limped their way to 240.
As far as Australia are concerned, it was Mitchell Starc who helped draw the first blood with the wicket of Shubman Gill. Even though they were put under pressure by Rohit Sharma, twin strikes in quick succession from Glenn Maxwell and Pat Cummins helped them wrestle the initiative back. Cummins rotated his bowlers well during the middle phase, and they did a stellar job, conceding only two boundaries between overs 11 and 40. Just when a partnership was blossoming, Cummins got rid of Kohli which opened one end for Australia. Hazlewood and Starc got the ball to reverse swing and by doing so, piled more misery on India. Adam Zampa too got into the act with a wicket before Cummins and Hazlewood helped Australia finish strongly with the ball. A special mention for the way Australia fielded and they surely were turned on for this grand occasion.
India have been bowled out for 240! A clinical bowling effort from Australia has them one step closer to lifting the Men’s ODI World Cup trophy for the sixth time. Are we jumping the gun after only one inning? Well, many will feel so, but if you are a cricket fan without any bias, this is a total which will give an edge to Australia. It has been a combination of perfect planning and perfect execution from Pat Cummins’ men and as a result, they will be the happier of the two sides.
