HBO streaming service Max is honoring actor Matthew Perry with a new tribute added to episodes of Friends.
Best known for his beloved role as Chandler Bing on the legendary sitcom, Perry died on Saturday at the age of 54. The cause is still under investigation.
Before the start of each season of Friends, which streams on Max, a tribute card will now be displayed in Perry’s memory. “In memory of Matthew Perry 1969-2023,” reads the card, shown before the beginning of all 10 seasons in the NBC series.
Friends co-creators Marta Kauffman and David Crane and executive producer Kevin Bright released a joint statement expressing their shock and grief at the actor’s death.
“We are shocked and deeply, deeply saddened by our beloved friend Matthew’s passing. It still seems impossible. All we can say is that we feel blessed to have had him as part of our lives,” they wrote. “He was a brilliant talent. It’s a cliche to say that an actor makes a role their own, but in Matthew’s case, there are no truer words.”

Perry was found unresponsive in his Los Angeles home on Oct. 28. Since, there has been an outpouring of mourning and tributes from loved ones, colleagues, and fans.
